train with us
Turnip Ensemble Theater provides access to diverse methodologies and educational opportunities for performers, theater-makers, and non-actors. Our training is open to all, and there is currently no application process. Training is offered after hours and on weekends so working artists can attend, and we provide robust needs-based scholarships and caregiving subsidies to make it possible for everyone to train. You can find more information about both of these initiatives during registration.

june training intensive
Join us each year in June for a deep dive into a different theater methodology. Past intensives have included Viewpoints, Theatre of the Oppressed, Moment Work, and the Lecoq Approach. Our June 2026 training intensive will be announced early next year.

core values
-
Collaboration: Everything we do is done in community.
-
Commitment: We take ours and others' time seriously, and are thoughtfully and fully committed to our engagements.
-
High Standards: We hold ourselves to high artistic standards of theater making. We are trained in a variety of methods and practices, and utilize this vast pool of knowledge and skill in our work.
-
Inclusivity: We span a spectrum of experiences, abilities, and beliefs. No one is excluded from our work, and we create for and with all populations.
-
Joy: The best part of creating theater is the pursuit of joy. We know that joy is not a feeling, but a posture of the heart, and we embrace it in everything we do.
-
Listening: We take the time to listen before speaking and learn before instructing.
-
Open-heartedness: We think the best of each other, approach our work with humility, and don’t take things too seriously.
-
Patience: Good things take time, and we are not in a rush to put out work if it is not yet ready.
